Ask a question across your documents

Ask a question in plain words and get an answer from your own documents, with the passages it came from. Open the sources to check the answer.

Ask needs built-in AI, which the person who set up Stuga turns on in Settings. Until then, the page says AI chat is off.

  1. Choose Ask your documents in the sidebar.

  2. Type your question, then press Enter or choose Ask.

While Stuga works, it shows what it’s looking through. Stop ends it early.

  3. Click a source number in the answer to see the passage it refers to. Choose Open document ↗ to open the source.

Sources, under the answer, lists every passage the answer used.

To check how an answer was put together, open How this answer was found. It shows the searches and sources Ask used.

Type the next question in Ask a follow-up…. Ask keeps the conversation in mind, so “what about last year?” works.

Every conversation is saved in the list on the left. New question starts another. Hover over a conversation to Rename or Delete it; deleting one leaves your documents as they are.

Under the question box, the menu that starts at All documents in this workspace picks what Ask may draw on. Choose a collection to keep the answer inside it, or New collection… to make one. The choice is fixed once a conversation starts; start a new one to change it.

  • Ask can also look things up in the databases you can open.
  • Documents set to Hidden from search aren’t included.
  • Ask only reads. To turn an answer into changes, use the AI co-author in the document.
  • If a notice under the answer says semantic search was unavailable, that answer matched words only.
  • AI chat is off: ask the person who set up Stuga to turn on built-in AI. Meanwhile, the notice’s Connect your AI agent button lets your own AI tool, such as Claude, use Stuga instead.
  • The answer stops with an error: choose Try again.
