Import a spreadsheet into a database
Bring rows from a spreadsheet into a table: save it as CSV, check what Stuga will import, then import. CSV is a file format your spreadsheet app can save or export.
What you need
Section titled “What you need”- The spreadsheet, saved or exported as a CSV file.
- A table whose columns match the spreadsheet’s headings. The first line of the file names the columns.
- Edit access to the database.
Get the headings right
Section titled “Get the headings right”-
Open the database and select the table you want to fill.
-
In the ⋯ menu beside Share, choose Import….
-
Choose Download template.
You get a CSV with this table’s headings and nothing else. Paste your rows under them, or rename the headings in your own spreadsheet to match.
Import
Section titled “Import”-
In the ⋯ menu beside Share, choose Import….
-
Drop the file in the window, or click to choose it.
Stuga checks every row. It says how many are ready, which columns matched, and which headings it will ignore because the table has no such column.
-
If some rows have a problem, a list shows each one: its Row, Column, Value and Problem. Fix them in the file and choose Change to pick it again, or go on without them.
-
If the file has dates like 1/4/26, say how to read them: Month / day / year or Day / month / year.
-
Choose the button at the bottom. It says what will happen, such as Import 120 rows or Import 118 rows, skip 2.
When it’s done, Done closes the window and the rows are in the table.
A file can be up to 10 MB, unless the person who set up Stuga raised the upload limit. JSONL files work too.
Undo an import
Section titled “Undo an import”Open the side panels with the Side panels button, and choose Activity. If the import can still be undone, it shows Revert.
Good to know
Section titled “Good to know”An AI tool can import a file too. Its whole file arrives as one change that waits for your review, by default, with Accept all and Reject all in the banner above the table. A database set to Let AI edits apply directly applies the import at once. See Review what an AI changed.
If the AI tool can’t send the file itself, it may give you a link that opens this same import window, for you to finish.
- Create a database: set up the columns first.
- Save views of a database: save filters, sorting and grouping.
- Import from Notion: bring a whole workspace.
