Move a workspace to another computer

For the person who set up Stuga.

For the person who set up Stuga. Install and set up Stuga on the other computer first.

Move one workspace

Move one workspace: export, then import The old Stuga has the workspaces Team and Projects. A workspace Owner or Admin exports Team as a .stuga.zip file, which holds the items that person can open. Importing it on the new Stuga adds Team beside Research, the workspace already there. Members and sharing are set up again, and version history stays on the old Stuga. Old Stuga Team Projects Export workspace .stuga.zip Owner or Admin; the items you can open New Stuga Research Team

Added beside what’s there. Members and sharing are set up again; version history stays behind.

Move all of Stuga

Move all of Stuga: back up, then restore The old Stuga has the workspaces Team and Projects, plus its accounts, history and settings. A backup of it is restored on the new Stuga. Afterwards the new Stuga holds the same workspaces, accounts, history and settings, and Research, the workspace that was there before, is replaced. Back up what is on the new Stuga first. Old Stuga Team Projects accounts history settings New Stuga Team Projects accounts history settings Backup → restore Research replaced

Replaces everything on the destination. Back up what’s there first.

Export adds one workspace to another Stuga. Restoring a backup replaces all of it.
  1. On the old Stuga, open Settings → This workspace → General and choose Export workspace. You need the workspace’s Owner or Admin role.

The file contains the items you can open.

  2. On the new Stuga, open the workspace switcher and choose Create workspace.

  3. Under Start with, choose Import and select the file.

  4. Enter a Workspace name, or leave it empty to keep the name from the file.

  5. Under Who can use new documents?, choose the sharing for imported items.

  6. Choose Create workspace.

  7. Invite members and set each item’s sharing again.

Check the new workspace before deleting the old one. Exporting leaves the old workspace in place.

Documents, databases, views, row pages, files, comments and instructions for AI tools move with the export. Review, lock and search settings come along too. Whoever imports owns the items. Imported comments show their authors’ names, and mentions become plain text.

Membership, sharing, collections and favorites need to be set up again. Version history and AI review and activity history stay on the old Stuga. Use a backup if you need to preserve those.

A backup contains every workspace, account and stored setting, with history. Restoring it replaces the data on the destination computer, so keep a backup of anything already there. Follow Back up and restore and the technical guide for your installation.

Before changing data, restore checks whether the destination can use the backup. If it refuses, follow its message; don’t overwrite the data by hand.

If the web address changes, people need to sign in there again. Send them the new address and create new invite links.
