Comment and mention people

You can comment when the document is shared with you with Can comment or Can edit.

  1. Select the text.
  2. In the bar that appears above it, choose Comment.
  3. Type your comment, and press Enter or choose Comment. Escape cancels.

The passage stays highlighted. Click it to find its thread.

  1. Open the side panels with the Side panels button at the top right, and choose Comments.
  2. Type in the box at the bottom, and choose Comment.

In Comments, each thread has:

  • a Reply box under an open thread; reopen a resolved thread before replying. Press Enter to send.
  • Resolve, which hides the thread once it’s settled. A line at the top, such as Show 2 resolved, brings resolved threads back, and Reopen makes one active again.
  • Delete. Deleting the first comment in a thread deletes its replies too.

Type @ and the start of a name, then pick the person. This works in comments and in the document’s text.

The person is notified if they can open the document. A mention gives nobody access: to bring someone in, share the document with them.

The bell at the top right shows a dot when something new is waiting. You are notified when:

  • someone mentions you;
  • someone shares a document with you;
  • someone asks for access to a document you own.

Click a notification to open the document. Opening the bell marks everything as read.
