Open Stuga on other computers and phones
For the person who set up Stuga.
The address is the link other people open. Invite links carry it, so most people open the link you send them. These steps are for devices on the same Wi‑Fi or wired office connection as Stuga.
Share the address
Section titled “Share the address”On a Mac, click the Stuga mark in the menu bar:
- Copy Address copies the address, to send to your team.
- Show Address as QR Code… shows it as a QR code. Scan it with a phone’s camera on the same Wi‑Fi.
With Docker, or on any Stuga, the address is under Settings → This node → About, as Public address.
Allow access when asked
Section titled “Allow access when asked”The first time, a computer may ask for permission. Both are how it reaches Stuga.
- A browser other than Safari asks once whether it may find devices on local networks. Allow it. To turn it on later, open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network, and turn the browser on.
- On the Mac running Stuga, if macOS asks whether “node” may accept incoming connections, allow it. Otherwise other computers get no answer.
If it doesn’t work
Section titled “If it doesn’t work”- The address doesn’t open on another computer or phone → check that both are on the same Wi‑Fi or wired office connection; a guest Wi‑Fi often keeps its devices apart. If a device can’t open an address ending in .local, use the Mac’s IP address with :8787 after it instead.
- It opens on your phone, but not in a browser on a Mac → check that browser’s permission to reach devices on local networks. Turn it on under Local Network, as above, quit the browser with ⌘Q and open it again. If that doesn’t help, restart the Mac.
- Copy buttons in Stuga do nothing → the browser keeps the clipboard from Stuga at this kind of address. Select the text and copy it instead.
- Invite people: send each person a link.
- Join a workspace you were invited to: what your team sees.
- When something goes wrong: more symptoms, and what to do.
